Stacy Cox - D

Why are you running for office? This position appeals to me for several reasons. I enjoy accounting and public service very much. I would love to have a local position where I can use my skills, education, and experience to make a difference in my community. I would like the opportunity to operate the Clerk-Treasurer's office focused on accuracy, accountability, and transparency. My expertise could save the City several thousands of dollars by eliminating expensive consultants.

If elected, I will strive to always do what's best for Logansport. The Clerk-Treasurer’s role should not be about political designation, it must focus on doing what’s right financially for the city of Logansport. Ultimately, the Clerk-Treasurer must be a good steward of the taxpayers' money! It is essentially the accountant for the city and I am very comfortable with that task. I do it professionally every day.

Education: I graduated from Logansport High School. I started my college career at Ivy Tech where I earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, graduating with honors. I continued on to Butler University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I rounded out my higher education at Indiana University where I earned my Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA). Within the next 2 years, I plan to accomplish my next professional goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Occupation/Work Experience: I have 15 years accounting experience. I am currently the Controller for Bona Vista Programs, Inc. where I manage the business office and assist the CFO with the accounting and reporting for the agency. I supervise the staff responsible for payroll, billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. I have extensive experience with financial statement preparation and analysis, budgeting, payroll, grant accounting, employment taxes, sales and income taxes, audits, and account reconciliations. I am fiscally responsible for all the federal and state grants (totaling $2 million) that fund the child programs at Bona Vista.

Prior to my current position, I was an accountant in healthcare for 5 years. I worked at Logansport Memorial Hospital and then St. Vincent Frankfort Hospital. Before my accounting career took off, I owned and operated an insurance and financial services agency for 6 years. I also have several years of management experience.

Previous political experience: Not exactly political, but I have served as an officer on several boards of directors. I was voted in as the Treasurer for Civic Players and I also serve as the Treasurer for our women's investment club.

Family & other biographical information: I was raised in Logansport and have lived here for most of my life aside from my college years spent in Lafayette and Indianapolis. I have an amazing 5 year old daughter in kindergarten. She's the center of my world and such a joy to be around.

Other interests & experience: I am very active with Revolution Community Church where I serve as the Community Outreach Coordinator. I am the treasurer of a local women’s investment club. I am a member of Civic Players and serve as their treasurer. Formerly, I served on the board of directors for Girl Scouts and Big Brothers Big Sisters. I am still a “big sister” and I adore the relationship I have with my “little sister.” I enjoy photography, singing, and I love to cook.
